A Proofreader is needed at this time. In a high-volume, low-staff setting, the ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and the ability to work well with others. Candidates should be adaptable, well-organized, and able to work calmly and efficiently under time constraints. Candidate must be self-motivated and able to operate with little oversight, settling issues on their own after due consideration. Must be fluent in both written and spoken communication and comfortable interacting with attorneys, personnel, and clients in a professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Documents with red flags should be sent back to the appropriate people to be fixed before being compared to the original.
- Edit the original paper or digital document after finding and fixing errors in spelling, grammar, or word usage. Help the department head come up with style rules and write them out so everyone can follow them.
- Communicate with coworkers, lawyers, and superiors to learn about tasks and relay any necessary updates to the paperwork.
- Internet savvy is a plus, but knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
- It is important to proofread documents to ensure they are error-free and presentable. Use a standardized proofreading code to draw attention to problematic areas in the document.
- Efficiently perform proofreading/copyediting services by making use of technology such as electronic work logs, instant messaging, track changes for feedback, and ChangePro for electronic review.
- Reading the original copy or drafts will help you spot and note any mistakes in grammar, spelling, or structure.
- Five plus years of proofreading experience, preferably in a law firm environment.
